School of Dentistry mission and metrics

Mission

The mission of The University of Texas School of Dentistry is to improve human health by providing high-quality education, patient care, and research in oral health for Texas, the nation, and the world

Student Achievement

The SOD has a strong commitment to building the workforce of oral health practitioners and scientists for the 21st century. Patient care, research, and service to the community serve as the guiding mission of the school. Founded in 1904 as the Texas Dental College, the SOD joined the UT System in the 1940s. The SOD evaluates success with respect to student achievement through a variety of measures including first-time pass rate on combined Dental National Board Parts I and II, first-time pass rate on Dental Hygiene National Boards, first-time pass rate on clinical licensure exams (dental and dental hygiene), graduation rate (dental, dental hygiene, and advanced education), and percent of graduates licensed in Texas (dental and dental hygiene).

The data described below are reported via a combination of the reporting documents described above as well as through the school’s outcomes assessment process. Within these processes are benchmarking and self-evaluation components allowing for continuous program improvement and assurances that the SOD is meeting its strategic goals and mission in regards to student achievement. The table below contains various data points for the performance areas for fiscal years 2011 through 2019.
