About Us:

UT House Medics is a team of volunteers who have renovated over 78 homes since 1991. We help elderly citizens of Houston feel special. We scrape and paint their homes, beautify landscaping, replace windows and doors, build wheelchair ramps, and so much more. As a volunteer, one of the best feelings is when our homeowner sees their new home!

We partner with Houston's largest community outreach organization called 'Rebuilding Together - Houston'(RTH). RTH works to preserve affordable homeownership and revitalize neighborhoods. They do this by providing home repair and renovation services at no cost to low-income homeowners in need, specifically the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and people impacted by natural disasters.

“When you meet a homeowner, your heart fills up. They know their home may be run down and in need of repair, but it’s their home and they don’t want to leave. It means everything to them. There IS no place like home. If they could be like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz and click their heels, they would. But, I guess that’s why we’re here.” - RTH Testimonial by Dennie Clemons

About UTHM 2016

Once again we had amazing volunteers for the 2016 community service project. Thank you to all those who volunteered on Saturday, April 16th and Saturday, April 23rd!

Mrs. Devella Garrett (88 years young) was so pleased with our work on her home, yard and her fences! She was depending on us and we came through with flying colors!

We had a ton of yard work and plenty of scraping and painting. We did some caulking and replaced windows. Our experienced carpenters replaced some boards and the front panel of the hot water heater and storm door. An assembly line of students dug up a ton of bricks from the side yard and repurposed them into a wonderful walking path to the back yard for Ms. Garrett.

Almost every window on the house now has a new screen. Sandra (long time volunteer) taught others how to build screens from scratch and they spent most of the day rolling the screen into customized frames.

Volunteers really wanted to knock the rust off the wrought iron fence, so we did! That fence went on forever but these determined people scrapped the whole thing and then painted it to a fine gloss. Wow! What a difference!!! We normally don't have enough helping hands to handle this extra work. Thanks SIC and friends!

Our Roving Crew built a picket fence where there was none in the back (thank you D A Novosad for your expertise). Now she has a little more privacy and protection.

Our volunteers were so ambitious and eager to beautify Ms. Garrett's home! They painted UNDER the carport which made a huge difference! We braced her bench seat and power washed it to perfection. She even has a new mailbox with a post that no longer leans over. All of the loose wiring was either removed or secured to the house.

Please take a moment to scroll though the Flickr photos to see these volunteers at work and see the awesome results. We hope all of the are addicted to the project and return year after year to lend a helping hand with us! We can make a difference together. Rebuilding Together with UT House Medics and the SIC.

UTHealth Students -Student InterCouncil (SIC) co-sponsored the 2015 and 2016 projects. We are looking forwarding to working with all of you again!Student leaders at the work site are: Marian Chen and Mason Borth.

不喜欢与你的手吗?不是一个问题!We need volunteers to visit with the homeowners, help us work safely, coordinate various tasks and teach our young ones how to paint and beautify a garden.

In addition to UTHealth faculty, staff and students, UT House Medics welcomes Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and young adults needing volunteer hours for high school and college. Volunteers are provided with a light lunch, a commemorative t-shirt and a heart filled with joy at the end of each work day. The home owners feel very blessed by our generous gift of time.
