School of Public Health

As the local, regional, and global response to the COVID-19 pandemic has shown, individual health and public health are always connected. That’s one of the key reasons why, at our six campuses across the state, the School of Public Health prepares graduates to become leaders in this critically important field.

Our 43 graduate degree programs prepare students to make a difference at universities, in the private sector, and at every level of government. Our state-wide presence gives us insight into the unique needs of specific populations and regions. We’re training students to become not only health care professionals but critical thinkers capable of assessing and addressing the challenges of an increasingly complex health care landscape.

From supporting groundbreaking work in population health to continuing to grow the UTHealth COVID-19 Center of Excellence,Many Faces. One Mission.is your opportunity to help advance the state of the art in public health and, in doing so, help define the future of health care.

Funding Priorities

Eric Boerwinkle, PhD

“Like no other event in our lifetimes, the COVID-19 pandemic has shown us the importance of establishing and maintaining a strong public health infrastructure—and emphasized the degree to which our state’s public health infrastructure must be strengthened.

The way we think about and understand public health must change—andischanging. We cannot think about the health of individuals without thinking about the health of the community. In the coming years, our focus will shift towards the pursuit of population health: a science that sits at the intersection of health, policy, industry, and systems design, necessitating heightened collaboration across sectors, powered by continued excellence in research, teaching, and community practice. Many Faces. One Mission.will help us make this vision a reality.”
