The hospital serves as a major referral center for complicated obstetric and gynecologic cases from across the city. The obstetrical service performs approximately 350 deliveries per month. A level III nursery is available to provide care to the tiniest of newborns. The Perinatal Testing Center does 400 ultrasounds per month and the Ob/Gyn referral clinic sees >100 patients per day. Each year approximately 700 major gyn cases are performed by residents. There is a modern teaching facility with classrooms, computer lab, and high-tech auditorium adjacent to the hospital. UTHealth Ob/Gyn faculty members directly oversee all patient care and have offices within the hospital buildings. The hospital is undergoing a major expansion project with a new state-of-the-art emergency center opening in 2011. A 4 story outpatient complex has been started adjacent to the hospital which will house all outpatient clinics and an outpatient surgery suite.
