Resident physicians at McGovern Medical School are employees of the UT System Medical Foundation (UTSMF). All residents receive medical, dental, vision, practice specific disability and life insurance. Resident/fellow salaries for the 2021-2022 academic year are tiered according to postgraduate year (PGY) as follows:

  • PL-1 $61,824
  • PL-2 $64,138
  • PL-3 $65,873
  • PL-4 $68,533

Each resident in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is provided with lab coats, a personal pager, and an $800 book fund, which is renewed annually. Compensation is available to residents for submitting abstracts and when presenting at national meetings. Additional funds are available for manuscripts accepted for publication. Five academic days per year are granted to attend conferences or complete board examinations. A total of twelve sick days and three weeks of vacation are given per year. Residents have their own desk, computer and office space located within the pathology department in the University of Texas Medical School.
