TheAdult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner track at UTHealthsets a high standard for graduates as reflected by the US News and World Report ranking as the best graduate nursing school in the Gulf Coast Region of Texas. The program is dynamic and offers courses both online and on-campus. This blended format enhances the overall student experience by balancing convenience with the personal and professional benefits of in-class learning and networking.

The Cizik School of NursingAdult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitionertrack prepares graduates to care for patients from adolescence throughout the lifespan with complex health deviations across the continuum of acute care services. The curriculum addresses common health problems encountered by adult acutely ill patients. Graduates of the program are eligible to take the Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner certification examination offered by the American Nurse Credentialing Center or the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses.

Graduates of the advanced practice degrees are eligible to take national certification exams and eligible for licensure as an Advance Practice Nurse in Texas.Requirements for other statesvary and graduates should check individual state requirements prior to applying for an advanced practice status or license.

The Curriculum

The Adult/Gerontology Acute Care track offers courses online and in the classroom to provide students with a flexible schedule. This hybrid format allows students to work and go to school. It also provides critical in-classroom experiences that provide networking time with colleagues, as well as access to notable speakers and leaders located within and around the Texas Medical Center.

The Acute Care track consists of 41 credits and includes 660 precepted clinical hours. Clinical hours are co-managed and arranged between the faculty and student.

The program can be completed in as few as five (5) semesters, or up to eight (8) semesters as a part-time student. Students seeking the five semester option should apply for summer entry.

Cizik School of Nursing is proud of its commitment to graduate education through the offering of merit and need-based scholarships and grants. The application process is competitive and begins during the application review cycle. Through the generous support of donors, Cizik School of Nursing is pleased to announce the offering of 6 competitive Adult/Gerontology Nurse Practitioner scholarships in the 2019-2020 academic year. The scholarships will range in amount from $4,000 to $8,000. Scholarship awards will be based on academic merit and financial need.

Accreditation

The baccalaureate degree program in nursing, master’s degree program, doctor of nursing practice program, and post graduate APRN certificate programs at the Cizik School of Nursing are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).
