Welcome New Students, Congratulations on your admission to the School of Biomedical Informatics!

Students come to the School of Biomedical Informatics from all over the world to take advantage of our excellent academic programs and outstanding teaching faculty. We welcome you and look forward to having you join our dynamic community.

You may want to bookmark the Central Student Portal (//www.tjghsg.com/student/) on the device you are using. This site will serve as a guide to help connect you with the most sought after resources.

Below you will find important information to assist you in onboarding as a new student here at SBMI.

Prior to being matriculated as a new student here at SBMI, you will use theapplyUTHportal to check on your status. You will need to log on toapplyUTHusing the “Manage Application” portal.

Once you have cleared the criminal background check which will also clear the Identity Management (IDM) hold you will then be set up with amyUTH帐户。身份管理(IDM)持有将not generate to your account until you are matriculated as a new student here at SBMI.

Once yourapplyUTH/myUTHaccount has been set up please start working on the holds on your account. You will need to take care of all holds on your account to enroll for the semester.

Please be aware that some holds will not generate to yourmyUTHaccount until you have been matriculated as a new student by the UTHealth Registrar's Office. Matriculation of new students occurs approximately two weeks before the start of registration.

Possible holds on your account before matriculation:

If you have not submitted all of your official transcripts, WES or ECE education evaluations, and test results (as per your admission requirements) to theUTHealth Registrar’s Officeplease do so now. If you need to submit test results for either the GRE or TOEFL please use code 6906; no department code is required.

Once yourmyUTHaccount has been set up please start working on the holds on your account. You will need to take care of all holds on your account to enroll for the semester.

Possible holds on your account after matriculation:

  • Identity Management Hold– This hold will be removed once yourcriminal background checkclears. After both of these holds are cleared you will receive your UTHealth student email account information.
  • Health Insurance Certificate- You will take care of this hold through yourmyUTHaccount
  • Activity Guide hold– You will take care of this hold through yourmyUTHaccount
  • International Affairs Hold- UTHealth students contact theOffice of International Affairsatutoiahouston@uth.tmc.eduor call 713-500-3176.
  • International Health Insurance Plan- You will receive an email, sent to your campus email address, from Student Insurance which will provide you with additional instructions for you to certify your health insurance online. Please follow the instructions in the email to ensure that your account is accurately updated or to get started, cut & paste the following link into your browser -https://uthouston.myahpcare.com.

  • You will receive an email from the Office of Academic Affairs with your UTHealth email account information after you clear your Criminal Background Check and the Identity Management Holds. Please be sure to log on to this email account to verify your account is working properly.
  • Your UTHealth email address is to be checked regularly, as our faculty and school use this email address as our primary means of communication with the student body.
  • All international students must complete anOIA Check-In Form. The form is a requirement to be completed by all NEW international visitors, students, researchers, trainees or employees joining UTHealth on any non-immigrant visa or temporary Employment Authorization Document (EAD, B , F, J, H-1B, O, TN, etc.).
  • Appointments are strongly encouraged to ensure that an International Visitor Advisor is available to assist you with any questions or concerns you have. Although no appointment is required to check-in, it is advisable that you schedule an appointment to complete your check-in by sending the Office of International Affairs an email atutoiahouston@uth.tmc.eduor by calling (713) 500-3176.
  • 所有国际学生参加大学的y of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) on a non-immigrant visa status are required by the University of Texas (UT) System Board of Regents to have continuous medical insurance compliant with the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). Enrollment in the UT Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) is automatic at the time of registration.

The New Student Orientation must be completed in order to enroll for courses.
  • The new student orientation will open approximately two weeks before registration starts for the semester.
  • You have to clear your criminal background check to release your identity management hold so you will have access to your student email account before you can start the New Student Orientation.
  • Please go to theLearning Management Systemand log in using your LDAP account (same as MyUTH login and student email login).

  • Click on the “Join this course” link to start the new student orientation.
  • Complete the entire orientation online.
  • All new students are required to take BMI 5300 Introduction to Biomedical Informatics in their first semester.
  • You will find all the courses available listed on theSemester Schedule.
  • For assistance with course selection please contact your program advisor. You can find your advisor and contact information in your admission letter. You may also contactSBMIAcademics@uth.tmc.eduor 713.500.3914 for assistance.

  • You will be enrolled in the course in Canvas automatically after registering in MyUTH. In Canvas, you are enrolled immediately if the course has been published. A course may not be open to the students when it is still being prepared. All courses will be available to students by first day of class.
  • If you forget your password or need any assistance with your LDAP account, please call the Help Desk at (713) 486-4848.
  • Check theTextbook listfor the current semester and buy the required textbooks before class begins
  • For information about the tuition and fee schedule, please visit theRegistrar’s Web page.
  • Tuition payment can be made via your MyUTH account.
  • Please visit theBursar’s Officewebsite or call (713)500-3088 for information concerning your tuition bill, fees, and installment plans.
  • Once you have registered for classes, you are able to obtain a student ID badge.
  • New identification badges for students are processed at the Parking Office located on first floor by the guard desk of the University Center Tower (UCT) at 7000 Fannin Street.
  • Please visit theParking Services Officefor more information concerning hours of operation and contact information.
  • Online students living outside the Houston metro area can request an ID badge by sending a request with a passport-style photo to Academic Affairs atSBMIAcademics@uth.tmc.edu.
  • The ID badge is your identity for after-hours access and for the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center (HAM-TMC) Library. You will also need it if you want to purchase software at one of the bookstores in the medical center.
  • To gain access to SBMI student areas, please send a legible copy of the front and the back of your ID badge toSBMIAcademics@uth.tmc.eduwith the email subject, “Student ID Badge Access Request.”
  • Online students living outside the Houston metro area can request an ID badge by sending a request with a passport-style photo to the Office of Academic Affairs atSBMIAcademics@uth.tmc.edu.
  • The Board of Regents of The University of Texas System mandates health insurance for all students enrolled in the UT System health components.

  • Before being able to register for classes each semester, every student must complete the health insurance certification process through his/her myUTH account.
  • The Shuttle operates Monday through Friday, from 6:00 am to 8:30 pm (except on university holidays).

  • Student Health and counseling services are available to all UTHealth students.
