SBMI student earns NLM Training Fellowship

Sarah May is a current PhD student at SBMI who recently earned a new fellowship. May received a one-year predoctoral fellowship with theGulf Coast Consortia NLM Training Program in Biomedical Informatics and Data Science.The fellowship, which includes a yearly stipend, started on Feb. 1 and concludes on Jan. 31 of 2020. The fellowship is renewable for up to three years provided May demonstrates sufficient progress on her project.

The key goal of the program is to provide training in three domains of informatics; healthcare/clinical informatics, translational bioinformatics, and clinical research informatics. May’s project, titled “Using Patient Similarities Based on Clinic Visit Patterns to Improve Care for Patients Living with HIV,” falls within the first domain.

Assistant ProfessorAssaf Gottlieb, PhDwill be May’s primary mentor and Thomas Giordano, MD, MPH, professor of Medicine-Infectious Disease at Baylor College of Medicine, will serve as secondary mentor.
