Application Process

The process below is specific for the Department of Neurology. If you would like to apply for a visiting position in a different department, you will need to contact that department.

1) Applicant must identify a faculty sponsor. The department does not have a list of faculty that regularly accept observers. It is the responsibility of the applicant to research our Neurology faculty and contact them by email requesting an observership. Faculty from other departments or specialties cannot be the sponsor for Neurology observerships/professional trainees/pre-baccalaureate trainees/visiting student trainees/visiting scientists.

2) After faculty sponsor is obtained, applicant reviews the application instructions to determine which category is appropriate for him/her to apply under. This should be discussed with the faculty sponsor before submitting the application. Applicant completes application and submits the following to the administrative contact for the faculty sponsor:

  • checklist
  • pages 1-4TYPED
  • appropriate health form(s)
  • all supporting documentation as outlined
  • all appropriate fees

3) Faculty sponsor complete their portion of application and obtains Department Chair approval.

4) Faculty sponsor or administrative contact routes application to the appropriate departments (Health Services and Office of EVPCAO) on campus for review and final approval.

6) Faculty sponsor or administrative contact notifies applicant of approval or denial.

7) Applicant must have an intake appointment withHuman Resourcesto review the applicant’s identification and obtain a visitor’s UTHealth badge. In addition, a foreign applicant must obtain visa clearance from theOffice of International Affairs.

NOTE: Applications submitted less than 10 weeks in advance of the desired start date will be returned without review.
