Assistant Professor Tulsi Patel joined UTHealth School of Dentistry in 2016 after practicing and instructing in dental hygiene in Oregon. Her previous educational work was completed at Pacific University, where she instructed in clinical dental hygiene, local anesthesia, and restorative clinics. She also supervised students at off-site rotations, working with expanded functions to deliver oral care to underserved populations.

She holds a master's in healthcare administration (MHA) from Pacific University, where she helped develop a quality assurance program to be used with axiUm in their dental hygiene clinic. The focus of her capstone project was on developing a wellness center that addressed integrated care and healthcare reform.

Her professional activities include membership in the American Dental Education Association (ADEA), American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA), as well as the Dental Hygiene Educators of Texas (DHET) — serving as the chair of educational programs. She is a member of Sigma Phi Alpha, the national dental hygiene honor society, holding alumni membership in the Delta Delta Xi chapter.

She is committed to creating a positive and open learning environment for students. In 2018, she was selected to be the recipient of the Lorna J. Bruning Award, which recognizes a faculty member who demonstrates exceptional knowledge and competence towards effective learning.
