Hello,
As part of the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs’ new Wellness and Resilience initiative, an inaugural Student Day of Service was held March 16. The Day of Service was not only a thank-you from our students to Houston for contributing to their medical education but also an opportunity for our budding physicians to develop their skills of collaboration and compassion.
More than 240 McGovern Medical School students and faculty served 15 community organizations in the Greater Houston area, working in over 22 shifts. The volunteers provided aid to the newest of Houstonians, from newborns and toddlers in foster care to refugees learning sustainable farming. They worked with care to prepare and serve meals to the hungry and sorted medical supplies that will be sent to those in need around the world.
I am very proud of our students and applaud this effort. The Day of Service will become an annual event and will help foster the culture of service at McGovern Medical School.

I wanted to remind everyone that this month we celebrate both National Nutrition Month and Women’s History Month as well as World Bipolar Day today, which is held on Vincent van Gogh’s birthday.
