Education and Training

The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) School of Public Health has many different programs available in the areas of biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health, health promotion, and management, policy and community health.

Health Promotion Workshops

A variety of short courses and workshops are conducted by the Center for Health Promotion Research through which current students and non-student healthcare and education professionals may increase their knowledge base for teaching, conducting research, or performing clinical applications relating to health promotion and disease prevention.

McGovern Lecture Series

The John P. McGovern Award Lecture Series in Health Promotion was established in 1996 by Dr. McGovern to acknowledge the important role that health promotion programs play in public health to improve health and prevent disease. The series provides an opportunity to recognize distinguished researchers who have made outstanding contributions to the development, implementation and evaluation of health promotion programs. Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences

The Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research is housed within the Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences (HPBS) at the UTHealth School of Public Health. This academic division seeks to promote healthy lifestyles and to prevent disease through the application of social and behavioral sciences. Degree-seeking students are offered the following three options through the HPBS department:

  • Master of Public Health (MPH)
  • Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)
  • Doctor of Philosophy in Public Health (PhD)

The Center for Health Promotion coordinates its research goals with the teaching efforts of the department and offers a variety of support mechanisms for students in UTHealth School of Public Health degree programs. Click on the program name for more information.
