SWCOEH resident Dr. Rosandra Daywalker awarded full scholarship to 2021 ACLM

HOUSTON (Nov. 29, 2021) – Rosandra Daywalker, MD, an occupational medicine resident and PhD student inTotal Worker Health^®at the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health (SWCOEH) at UTHealth School of Public Health was awarded a full scholarship to attend the 2021 American College of Lifestyle Medicine Annual Conference (ACLM).

"This scholarship enabled me to attend the Lifestyle Medicine 2021 Conference with other transformational leaders from all over the globe,” Daywalker said. “The themes addressed – such as prevention and reversal of chronic disease, culinary medicine, behavior change, mental health, resilience, and more – highly complement my training in Occupational and Environmental Medicine as I prepare to care for workers, their families, and their communities. As the first CDC NIOSHTotal Worker HealthPhD trainee in the nation, my experience in Lifestyle Medicine adds another layer of expertise that supports organizational and population well-being throughout the life continuum."

"One of the highlights for me was the townhall discussion featuring four former U.S. Surgeons General—Drs. Richard Carmona, David Satcher, Joycelyn Elders and Antonia Novell—who provided their perspectives on the past, present, and future of healthcare and the health equity, as well as their calls-to-action to Lifestyle Medicine professionals,” Daywalker continued. “It is always an honor to represent the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Public Health, and the Southwest Center for Occupational and Environmental Health. I am excited to serve as an ambassador for our field, and bring back valuable ideas and opportunities for collaboration."

This is Daywalker’s second full scholarship to attend a conference in 2021.Daywalkerpresented at the 2021 American Occupational Health Conference(AOHC Virtual 2021) in May, presenting “The Trauma Informed Approach for Patient and Practitioner Well-being”. Daywalker was awarded a full scholarship for AOHC Virtual 2021 by the American College of Environmental Medicine (ACOEM) Special Interest Section and the Occupational and Environmental Health Foundation.
