Biography

Dr. Gutierrez joined the Division in 2012. He received his undergraduate education from the University of New Mexico, and medical degree from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine and a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolism at Baylor College of Medicine/MD Anderson Cancer Center Joint Program. He is board-certified in both specialties. His research focuses on focuses on insulin action and cardiovascular effects in pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes and atherosclerosis. His clinical interests are in Type 2 diabetes mellitus and the resulting metabolic complications.
