Biography

Kavindra V. Singh, Research Professor, Internal Medicine, received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in India. He then joined the Indian Drugs and Pharmaceutical, Ltd., (IDPL), in the Research and Development section (Microbiology), where he worked as Research Executive. Dr. Singh developed expertise in in vivo models and antimicrobial testing of newly synthesized compounds at the IDPL Research Center. In order to further his research and academic interests, Dr. Singh moved to Houston in 1988 when he joined Dr. Murray’s group, in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease at the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. His abilities as a researcher in Dr. Murray’s group were impressive and he quickly rose in the ranks and joined the faculty at UTHealth (Assistant Professor) in 1999, promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 2009 and became Professor in 2017. Dr. Singh’s major scientific contributions are in the field of enterococcal pathogenesis and mechanisms of GI colonization of enterococci, molecular epidemiology, mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance including pharmacokinetics and experimental therapeutics. Dr. Singh has published over 150 peer-reviewed articles of which 35 papers have been with clinical/ID fellows and 78 papers (at UTHSC) with graduate students, national and international visiting scientists and collaborators. He has 4 book chapters including most recent one on “Antibody guided molecular imaging of infective endocarditis infection”. Dr. Singh has been principal investigator on several current and previously funded industry grants and he has been co-investigator and/or Co-PI with Dr. Murray on R01, R37 and R21 grants. Apart from active research, Dr. Singh is involved in training graduate students, clinical fellow/trainees and visiting scientists from US and other countries.
