Residency Program Application Process

Application Requirements

The program is open to U.S. citizens, permanent U.S. immigrants and international applicants as follows:

  • Graduates of medical schools in the United States and Canada accredited by theLiaison Committee on Medical Education(LCME).
  • Graduates of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the United States accredited by theAmerican Osteopathic Association(AOA).
  • Graduates of medical schools outside the United States and Canada who meet one of the following qualifications:
  • H1B visas are not sponsoredby this institution for Graduate Medical Education.

Applicants who graduated prior to the current year and who are not ECFMG certified at the time their application is submitted will not be considered for an interview. Applicants currently enrolled in medical school must be certified immediately after graduation. The program does not accept delayed start dates for residency training. Multiple attempts at passing USMLE will reduce the applicants’ chance of being offered an interview. Prior clinical experience is not required. Applicants who are not citizens of the United States must apply for an ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visa or have an INS issued employment authorization. H1B visas are not sponsored by this institution for Graduate Medical Education. Applicants are selected on the basis of their ability, academic credentials, communication skills, motivation, and integrity. We do not discriminate with regard to sex, race, age, religion, color, national origin, disability or veteran status.

Our program participates in theElectronic Residency Application Service(ERAS). Applications are only accepted through ERAS. We also participate in theNational Resident Matching Program(NRMP).

We accept twelve candidates annually and interview applicants on three or four Tuesdays in November and December. An interview is required for full consideration of your application. The deadline for application submission with supporting documents(with the exception of the Dean’s letter)is November 1st.(U.S. graduates’ Dean’s letters are not available until November 1st.)Applicants will be notified by email if they are selected for an interview.

International Medical School Graduates

德州医学委员会和中心的书re & Medicaid Services require that certain documents be reviewed and be present in your file should you be accepted into a residency/fellowship position. International Medical School Graduates (IMG’s) who are candidates for UTMSH residency and fellowship positions must present certified and notarized 8-1/2 inch by 11 inch photocopies.

In order to be processed for a residency or clinical fellowship position, these requirements must be met before a program can rank you for the Match. You will be required to bring such documents the day of your interview for review. Failure to provide these documents may cause a delay in your residency/fellowship start date. The GME Office will not accept documents that are mailed directly from the IMG to the GME Office.
