Biography
Silvia Hafliger, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry, specializes in psychosomatic medicine and treating psychiatric disorders in patients with serious medical conditions such as organ transplants, cancer, HIV, diabetes, and heart disease. She also has extensive expertise and experience in depression, anxiety, insomnia, chronic pain and substance use disorder. Hafliger believes in empowering patients and families so that they can effectively collaborate with their medical doctors and optimally manage their self-care.
Before joining the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, Hafliger was an assistant professor at the Center for Liver Disease and Transplantation at Columbia University Medical Center in New York for over 19 years. She completed medical school and residency at New York University School of Medicine and continued with a fellowship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Her other interests include speed walking, knitting, and spending time with her dogs.
