David R. Hall, MD
- Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery
Biography
Growing up in rural Oklahoma, but born in Texas, Ryan Hall, M.D., never wanted to be anything but a doctor. “I grew up outside, with lots of open space,” said Dr. Hall. Years later, he found his way back to his birth state to work in the Texas Medical Center.
Dr. Hall finished his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Oklahoma, before completing medical school at the OU Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City. “I was able to shadow the liver transplant surgeons early in medical school, and that experience had a lasting impact.”
At this beginning of residency in east Tennessee, Hall planned to return to Oklahoma to be a general surgeon, but could not find his way away from transplant surgery. He went on to complete fellowship at the renowned Methodist University Transplant Institute in Memphis, Tennessee. “There is nothing like transplant – it is immediately life changing, and filled with redemption at every turn. I love everything about it.”
Hall and his wife are parents to three children. In his spare time, he enjoys golf and endurance sports.
