From the President of UTHealth, Dr. Colasurdo:

Thanks in large part to your ongoing efforts during the pandemic — carefully following safety protocols, caring for patients in clinics and hospitals, administering thousands of vaccines at sites throughout our community, and advancing our understanding of how to prevent and treat this virus — we have made great progress combatting the spread of COVID-19. As a reflection of this progress, Gov. Greg Abbott issued an Executive Order May 14th regarding mask requirements for governmental entities. As a state institution, UTHealth has updated its safety protocols for our campuses and our clinics, effective immediately, to adhere to the executive order.

With that, the Recreation Center is moving forward:

  • For anyone fully–vaccinated, masks and social distancing are no longer required.
  • For those non–vaccinated, masks and social distancing are highly encouraged.
  • Temperature upon entry is still recommended and access not permitted if over 100F.
  • Children under 16 are still not allowed until further evaluation.
    Valid government issued ID, passport, birth certificate, etc. required for entry/membership.
  • 一切都是开100%. This includes all machines, equipment, courts, drinking fountains, showers, lockers, etc.
  • All members required to wipe down equipmentbefore and afteruse with the product provided.
  • Clean hands frequently! Use hand sanitizer or wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

    We continue to follow stringent sanitization protocols for proper disinfection, operation and maintenance, as well as incorporating additional procedures to achieve an even safer level of cleanliness.

  • Deep Clean
    • The entire facility is sterilized by a SteraMist (TM) every other weekend.
    • Continuous scheduled disinfection of high-touch areas
  • Daily Clean
    • 工作人员will receive ongoing training as guidelines continue to evolve
    • Standard cleaning spray has been upgraded to a single product that is an antibacterial cleaner, disinfectant, sanitizer, deodorizer, fungicide, mildewstat and virucide
    • Reusable towels have been replaced with one-time use wipes and paper towels
  • Self-Clean Sanitization Stations
    • Easy, readily available options for cleaning and disinfecting
    • 10+ new stainless steel floor dispensers with gym wipes throughout Weight Room, Cardio Area and Group Fitness Studio
    • Disposable paper towels will be stocked with additional sanitizing and disinfecting spray
    • Additional bottles of hand sanitizer all throughout facility

  • Equipment Spacing
    • All weights, equipment, machines, courts, drinking fountains, showers and lockers are now open.
    • Group Fitness Studio has 6 square foot spaces marked on the flooring for individual workouts.
  • Limited Usage
