My long term scientific career goal is to establish the roles of non-coding RNAs in human diseases. In order to accomplish this, I plan to continue and expand in the next few years my previous work in the following way:

  1. Identification of the Roles of microRNAs and Other Non-Coding RNAs in Cancer Predisposition
  2. Identification of Non-Coding RNAs Involved in Metastasis
  3. Identification of microRNAs and Other Non-Coding RNAs as Diagnostic and Prognostic Markers in Human CancersmicroRNA作为最古老的激素
  4. Development of New Therapeutic Strategies Involving microRNAs and Other Non-Coding RNAs

Students rotating in the Calin laboratory would learn:

  • Genomics techniques related to non-codingRNAs (such as cloning, identification of genomics alterations or sequence variations)
  • Expression studies (by Northern blottings, quantitative PCr or microarray technology)
  • Identification of clinical and prognostic correlations between the different molecular signatures that we will identify and the clinical parameters
  • 实现用于构建病毒载体的标准技术的技能
