The Biochemistry and Cell Biology Program
Doctorate and Masters students have the opportunity to work in any one of more than 100 faculty labs across MD Anderson UTHealth Graduate School, and the program welcomes students whose interests overlap with the program even if their mentor is not a program faculty. Faculty interests are a microcosm of those in GSBS and represent a broad array of disciplines including biochemistry, molecular biology, pharmacology, animal physiology, cell biology, cancer biology, neurobiology, biophysics, and computational biology and molecular modeling applied to numerous disease states and model organisms as well as translational research in humans.
Our diverse group of current students loves the student-focused, interactive faculty and community feel of the program that incorporates rigorous coursework, multidisciplinary laboratory training, and development of practical skills such as grant writing and presentation skills. BCB students are highly competitive for national and local fellowships and awards, as reflected by their outstanding publication records. BCB students also enjoy leadership opportunities including hosting external seminars by local and national researchers, research workshops, and student-run social activities. Our dedicated faculty provide an exceptional training and mentoring environment that propels BCB students to innovation in research and effectively prepares them for their next career step.
