Biography

Omar F. Pinjari, MD,is an assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences and an attending physician on the Mood Disorders Unit at UTHealth Harris County Psychiatric Center (HCPC). He has a diverse training background, having completed medical school in India and trained in the British medical system in England, Northern Ireland and Wales. Pinjari worked as a staff psychiatrist in Wales for 5 years before coming to the US to train in the American system. He completed his residency program in psychiatry at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington D.C., where he developed an interest in mood disorders.

Pinjari has specific interest in Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) as a treatment option for depression, bipolar disorder, and other mood spectrum disorders. He currently provides outpatient ECT treatment at the UTHealth HCPC along with Salih Selek, MD. He is also interested in ketamine treatment for severe depression, which is a novel treatment option for treatment resistant patients. In addition, Pinjari enjoys teaching and training both medical students and residents on the Mood Disorders Unit. He trainees to view psychiatry as a young specialty with interesting biological underpinnings that are being unraveled through constant new research.
