Think Tank

The Think Tank within the Center for Nursing Research is designed to provide a body of experts who can provide advice or ideas about your research idea. If you have a research idea and need assistance with formulating your idea, the research design or general approach, then you should request a Think Tank. This allows for open discussion about your research idea. Plan on the Think Tank lasting about one hour. You should include senior faculty from within the school and statistician(s) and you may include faculty from other schools.

Mock Review

The Mock Review within the Center for Nursing Research is designed to simulate the NIH study section process. This allows for written and verbal feedback to the investigator that reflects how their grant may be evaluated by the NIH or other similar funding source. Plan on the Mock Review lasting about one hour. You should not include those on your grant in the Mock Review, but they can attend. Try to include faculty from within the school and an expert reviewer (should have a funded NIH grant or other similar funding in the recent past or current) outside of the school. All Assistant Professors who are applying for a NIH grant or similar funding source should have a Mock Review. All other ranks are encouraged to go through this process.

Grant Postmortem Review

The Grant Postmortem Review within the Center for Nursing Research is designed to review the feedback provided by the NIH or other funding agencies and suggest changes for the next submission. This allows for verbal feedback to the investigator that reflects how their grant may be reconstructed for the next submission. Plan on the Postmortem lasting about one hour. You should not include those on your grant in the Postmortem, but they can attend. Try to include faculty from within the school and an expert reviewer (should have a funded NIH grant or similar funding in the recent past or current) outside of the school. All Assistant Professors who are re-applying for a NIH grant or similar funding source should have a Postmortem Review. All other ranks are encouraged to go through this process.

Support Available for all Types of Grants

  • Grant Guidelines: Consultation on interpreting the guidelines to insure accuracy and completeness of the application.
  • Budget: Assistance in developing a budget that meets the project's funding needs and is consistent with University and funding agency guidelines.
  • 形式: Completion of forms required for submission of the grant.
  • University Review & Authorization Process: Coordination of the review and signature process necessary before any grant can be submitted.
  • Application Submission: Assistance with copying application materials and insuring application packet(s) are sent to funding agency via e-mail or overnight courier service.

Please Note: ALL grant applications MUST BE reviewed by the Center for Nursing Research (CNR) prior to submission. Failure to have your application reviewed and processed by CNR may result in your having to refuse any grant funds awarded.
