Integrated Transplant Intensive Care Unit Team

Effective August 1, 2019, our department began staffing the transplant surgical intensive care unit in a collaborative and multidisciplinary model with the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. We are grateful to Dr. Bela Patel, Dr. Steve Bynon and the transplant service line for kindly inviting us to contribute to the care of patients in the TSICU in this capacity.

Dr. Alexander Reskallah is the medical co-director of the TSICU along with Dr. Ruckshanda Majid (medical co-director) from the pulmonary team. Dr. Majid is an outstanding physician and friend, and we look forward to working with her.

Our respective core departments will care for patients working as one integrated and seamless team. Likewise, both pulmonary and anesthesiology critical care medicine fellows will provide care in conjunction with the existing team of advanced practice providers.

The division of critical care medicine also thanks Dr. Holger Eltzschig for his leadership in facilitating this collaborative effort with our sister departments at McGovern Medical School, as well as Dr. Giuseppe Colasurdo and Dr. Barbara Stoll for their support of this effort.

We are excited about this new team and anticipate that our joint effort in caring for TSICU patients will be a very productive clinical and educational partnership!
