Drs. Hernandez and Vanga Promoted to Associate Professor

We would like to recognize Department of Anesthesiology clinical faculty members,Nadia Hernandez, MD,andNaveen Vanga, MD,for their well-deserved promotions to associate professor this year. We are extremely proud of them and their outstanding contributions to McGovern Medical School.
Dr. Hernandezjoined our faculty in 2014 after completing a fellowship in regional anesthesiology and acute pain medicine in New York. For the past five years she has served as the division chief for the Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine Division at McGovern Medical School, UTHealth. At our institution, Dr. Hernandez created the only regional anesthesia and acute pain fellowship program in Texas. She also started the Basic Focus Assessed Transthoracic Echocardiography(FATE) course at UTHealth. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, Dr. Hernandez is committed to resident education and has been the recipient of 8 teaching awards. She has published 19 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, written 4 book chapters, and has been invited 7 times as a visiting professor at other major academic institutions. Dr. Hernandez has lectured and taught regional anesthesia and point-of-care ultrasound at 16 national conferences and mentored residents to present 38 scientific abstracts at national and international conferences.
Dr. Vangacompleted his anesthesiology residency at McGovern Medical School in 2013 and joined the department as a faculty member the same year. He is renowned for his innovative teaching methods and has served as the education director of neuroanesthesia since 2014. In addition, Dr. Vanga has been the director of anesthesia simulation since 2017 where he provides our residents with the real-world, hand-on training so crucial to success in clinical practice. His redevelopment of this unique program has been well-received with plans for publication in the near future. He restarted the MOCA Part IV simulation course where he redesigned the curriculum, recruited and trained new instructors, and developed the framework to execute the course. He is also the assistant medical director of the Masters in Science of Anesthesiology Program at Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, and the new visual abstract editor ofAnesthesiology.
