Cardiovascular and Thoracic Fellowship

Welcome and thank you for your interest in our Cardiovascular and Thoracic Fellowship! Our program began in 2001 with two positions and since then has grown to four ACGME-accredited positions. We offer a one-year training period with full exposure to complex aortic, cardiac, valvular, transplant, thoracic, vascular and endovascular surgery. Fellows rotate between Memorial Hermann Heart & Vascular Institute-Texas Medical Center and Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center. Both locations offer excellent clinical exposure under the supervision of board-certified, fellowship-trained faculty. The table below represents our case volumes during the past year.

All heart surgeries receive an intraoperative TEE examination at both locations. Fellows will exceed TEE numbers needed to apply forNational Board of Echocardiography Diplomate status. Upon completion of the year, fellows will be expected to sit for theAdvanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography Exam.

If you are interested in our 24-month combined critical care anesthesiology (CCA) and adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology (ACTA) fellowship track, please read more on the track’s page. Your application will be reviewed by both programs, with a limited number of interviews offered to selected applicants and committee decisions provided by April.
