Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship

The goal of our 12-month program is to provide the trainee with a comprehensive experience to acquire skills and knowledge necessary to provide the best care for all children during the perioperative period.

Our fellowship program is ACGME-accredited and offers a variety of clinical experiences in general pediatric operating rooms (seven months), pediatric cardiac operating rooms—including the pediatric cardiac cath lab (1 to 2 months), the pediatric intensive care unit (one month) and pediatric acute pain service/regional anesthesia (one month), and an elective (one month).

During the general pediatric anesthesia rotation the fellow will gain experience in the management of neonates, infants, and children with congenital anomalies, major orthopedic surgery, organ transplantation, neurosurgery, ENT surgery, craniofacial surgery, and routine pediatric cases. Additionally, the fellow will be exposed to anesthesia and sedation for children undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Children’s Memorial Hermann Hospital is a Level I trauma center and a center for fetal surgery (The Fetal Center), including a neonatal intensive care service with 118 beds. The fellow will be exposed to a variety of very ill, injured, and premature children.

Our faculty, fellowship trained, not only provides excellent patient care but also create a friendly learning environment.

There is a strong focus on training in pediatric regional anesthesia for children of all ages and sizes—neuraxial and peripheral nerve blocks, single shots, and catheter placements.
