It is my pleasure to welcome you to the website of the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. This website provides the visitor with an overview of our Department. We hope you enjoy your visit!

Quality and excellence in service to our patients and to our community are our paramount objectives. Our department is centered in the heart of the Texas Medical Center (TMC), the world’s largest. Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, our primary teaching hospital, was the first institution built in 1925 on the grounds of the world famous Texas Medical Center. Our Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging supports a broad spectrum of healthcare needs and provides the educational and research initiatives of a radiology department at the forefront of modern medicine. This is made possible through our affiliation with our teaching hospitals, Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center and the Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital. Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center is a certified level one trauma center within the Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center. The Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital is our affiliated county hospital within the Harris Health System. Our department interprets more than 420,000 radiological procedures per year. Quality in service to our patients and to their referring physicians is actively maintained through a high profile performance improvement program.

Teaching is fundamental to our mission and we are proud of the well-recognized qualifications of our faculty. Our training programs not only capitalize on the educational opportunities at our affiliated teaching hospitals, but also benefit by sharing residency and fellowship training programs with other internationally recognized radiology departments, including MD Anderson Cancer Center, St. Joseph Medical Center, Texas Children’s Hospital, and CHI St. Luke’s Health. Together we offer a premiere educational environment staffed by an internationally recognized faculty. Should you be interested in our training programs, our web page guides you through the application process.

World class research in MR, PET and nuclear medicine are hallmarks of our department, with over $3 million in annual funding. Many of our basic science faculty and clinical faculty have achieved international status as world leaders in their fields. The unique and trail-blazing work of our research scientists speaks for itself. Browse through their web sites to gain insight into the creative talents behind the achievements.

Our faculty and our physicians in our training programs actively participate in national and international educational and research activities. Many are invited lecturers at international conferences. We are proud of their achievements and encourage participation in these activities as a part of our never-ending quest to remain at the forefront of our field. Please feel free to take a tour through our department; I trust you will find our website a worthwhile journey through our world of Diagnostic and Interventional Imaging.
