Jennifer E. S. (Sanner) Beauchamp, PhD, RN, FAAN, is an Associate Professor at Cizik School of Nursing at University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth Houston) in the Department of Research. Dr. Beauchamp graduated with a PhD in 2011 and an MSN in Clinical Research Management in 2005 at the Cizik School of Nursing. As the previous UTHealth Center for Clinical and Translational Sciences Biobank Director, Dr. Beauchamp has successfully established the University of Texas System Health Biobank (UTSHB) Consortium. The UTSHB Consortium is a large-scale virtual biobank of biobehavioral data. Under Dr. Beauchamp's leadership, genetic and omics-based biobanking efforts are expanding and speeding scientific discovery and translation across eight large academic research and clinical institutions within the University of Texas System. Dr. Beauchamp also successfully led an interdisciplinary team of scientists to establish a Proteomics Biobank for Neuropsychiatric Disorders. Dr. Beauchamp's formal genetic training and many years of genetic biobanking experience promotes personalized health initiatives and is based on genetic and omics-based information. Her work serves as a model for other nurse scientists pursuing leadership in genetic and biobanking initiatives.

Clinical/Research Focus
Dr. Beauchamp directs the UTHealth Institute for Stroke and Cerebrovascular Disease’s Mental Health Program. Under her leadership, the program develops new areas of research in post-stroke mental health recovery, promotes collaborative multi-disciplinary teams, and engages trainees across disciplines. Specifically, Dr. Beauchamp is generating evidence in biobehavioral determinants of health by targeting neuropsychiatric health to improve health and symptom outcomes for those living within the confines of cardio- and cerebrovascular diseases. She has many publications highlighting the presence of psychosocial stressors and associated heightened cardio- and cerebrovascular risks in individuals diagnosed with acute coronary syndromes or stroke. Dr. Beauchamp research currently emphasizes the importance of developing effective behavioral interventions, supports, and therapies to improve the management, education, and support services for stroke survivors and their informal caregivers.
