News from Cizik School of Nursing

Meagan Whisenant, PhD, RN, is applying her two decades of symptom science experience to two new grant-funded research projects. One aims to support patients experiencing brain tumors and their caregivers, and the other focuses on chemoprevention of breast cancer.

Four students will represent Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston in the 2022-23 cohort of UTHealthLeads, a one-year student fellowship program to develop future leaders in health care. In this program, fellows learn how to develop self-awareness, increase their leadership confidence, lead others, and effectively influence systems. They will be provided opportunities to network with leaders, develop fundamental skills, and commit to actions to continue their growth.

Starting nursing school can be exciting, but many students worry about the challenges that lie ahead of them. Learn how Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston’s mentorship program, organized by Student Government Organization helps incoming students in their transition to nursing school.

At Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston, faculty members and graduate students are exploring many facets of HIV and earning recognition for their efforts.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, in 2020, and completed its ROTC program to become a commissioned officer into the Texas Army National Guard. In her current role, she helps plan medical logistics for her unit.
