Nurses with graduate degrees who want to enhance their knowledge or take their career in a new direction may choose from several nondegree post-graduate options at Cizik School of Nursing at UTHealth Houston.

In addition to theNursing EducationandEmergency/Trauma Caretracks, which are offered on a post-graduate basis only, students with graduate degrees in nursing may complete master’s-level Nursing Leadership coursework. Nurses with graduate degrees may also complete coursework in any of our four nurse practitioner tracks that will prepare them to take a certification exam for that practice specialization.

An academic advisor will work with you to create a customized course plan based on your interests and previously completed graduate coursework. Upon completion, students will receive a recognition of achievement issued by Cizik School of Nursing. A transcript noting the courses taken will also be available.

The Nursing Leadership track at Cizik School of Nursing prepares graduates for managerial and administrative positions in acute care, outpatient, and community-based settings. Graduates are qualified to serve as clinical nurse managers, clinical or administrative nursing directors, and leaders in case management, quality improvement, and risk management. Some serve as Chief Nursing Officers in rural and suburban areas.
