MMG lecture series returns for Fall
TheDepartment of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics’ “Bioterrorism and Emerging Infectious Diseases: Preparedness and Response” lecture series returns in a hybrid format, both in person and streaming virtually, beginning Aug. 30.
The lecture series, which also doubles as a pass/fail elective course for medical and graduate students (GS07 1011), is a series of diverse 50-minute presentations that address a wide-range of topics including the biology of threat organisms, vaccine and therapeutic development, public health, public policy, safety, and more.
Topics and speakers vary from year-to-year, and the 2021 lineup includes many additions related to the current COVID-19 pandemic. The opening speaker isVivian Ho, PhD,James A. Baker III InstituteChair in Health Economics, and professor at Rice University and Baylor College of Medicine, presenting on “The Short- and Long-Term Impacts of COVID-19 on the U.S. Healthcare System.”
Lectures will be held weekly, each Monday beginning Aug. 30 and running through Dec. 6. There will be no lecture on Monday, Sept. 6, as the University honors Labor Day with a full closure holiday. Lectures will begin at noon in MSB B.625 as well as on Cisco Webex.
