Soares named president of AACDP

Jair Soares，医学博士，博士, professor and Pat R. Rutherford, Jr. Chair inPsychiatry, was recently named the president of the American Association of Chairs of Departments of Psychiatry (AACDP).

AACDP represents chairs in departments of psychiatry of medical schools across the United States, regardless of size. AACDP’s mission is promote excellence in psychiatric education, research, and clinical care. In addition, the organization advocates for health policy to create appropriate and affordable psychiatric care for all.

Soares initially reached out to AACDP when he first became the chair of the Faillace Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences 12 years ago. He said the support he’s received was overwhelmingly positive and inspired him to get more involved with the organization.

Soares has served in many different positions in the organization and credits his involvement in preparing him for his new role as president, where he will be responsible for reaching out to new members and organizing monthly executive leadership meetings.

Soares said he has found many positives in his time with the AACDP and is excited for the opportunity to lead.

“I’m honored and know I have some very big shoes to fill,” Soares said. “It takes a lot of learning on the job, and the organization can help with that by connecting with more experienced chairs.”
