Megan Oggero, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, IBCLC

Megan is a board-certified lactation consultant and family nurse practitioner and is the manager of the Lactation Foundation.

“I became motivated to help moms with breastfeeding after I had my first set of twins in 2005. They were born 5 weeks early at about 4.5 pounds each. They needed to stay in the NICU for 2.5 weeks to learn to eat well enough to grow. Unfortunately, they were required to be able to take all of their feedings by bottle for a 24 hour period in order to come home, so there wasn’t much focus on actual breastfeeding and the few times that I tried, it was very painful and frustrating.

I pumped as often as needed to develop a full milk supply. It took me until they were 8 weeks old to get them to breastfeed. Thankfully, things rapidly improved, but I did feel very alone in my journey in the beginning. I did not receive much assistance in the hospital, was not pointed toward any community resources, and basically had to figure it out on my own. If I were slightly less stubborn, I would have given up.

I want to help mothers avoid the struggles that I experienced and help them feel supported in their journeys. I am so proud and thankful that we are able to provide lactation services at the Lactation Foundation to all mothers at no cost.”

Megan is a mother to 5 children, including two sets of twins. She enjoys spending time with her family and their two golden retrievers, running, and volunteering. She is a certified USA Swimming Official.
