Sharon K. Ostwald, PhD, RN is a professor emerita and former holder of the Theodore J & Mary E Trumble Endowed Professorship in Aging Research and the Isla Carroll Turner Endowed Chair in Gerontological Nursing at The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston. She was the Director of the Center on Aging and Coordinator of International Programs for the School of Nursing, and has been a visiting scholar in England, Scotland, Sweden, Thailand, Italy, China, and Chile. She has conducted numerous funded research studies with frail older people and their caregivers, including serving as the PI of NIH-funded grants to conduct interdisciplinary intervention studies with persons with dementia and their families and stroke survivors and their spouses Additionally, she was co-PI of the Houston Geriatric Education Center, funded by HRSA, and Director of evaluation for HRSA and Reynolds Foundation-funded grants to increase aging knowledge among healthcare professionals. She is currently the evaluator for an Administration on Aging funded grant to provide services to persons with dementia and their caregivers through Amazing Place in Houston. Dr. Ostwald has over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals & book chapters, award-winning media, and has made numerous national and international presentations. She was a Fellow in the American Heart Association (FAHA) and the Gerontological Society of American (FGSA) and received the Excellence in Education Award from The University of Texas Academy of Health Science Education.
