During 45 years at UTHealth Houston, Deanna Grimes, DrPH, MSN, RN, FAAN, has taught in the BSN, MSN, PhD, DNP, and MSN-MPH programs.

She is a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Community Health Nursing and has established community-based nursing clinics and home nursing programs serving older adults in Harris County. Grimes has served on three occasions as a consultant to the World Health Organization in their mission to develop Community Health Nursing in China. She has continued communication with Chinese nursing educators and consults with nursing educators in Thailand. Grimes has authored books, book chapters and over forty journal articles on topics related to infectious diseases, HIV/AIDS, community health nursing and evaluation of outcomes of the care provided by Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs).

Grimes was inducted in 2000 into the American Academy of Nursing and serves on the Academy’s Priority Expert Panel on Emerging Infectious Diseases. She was inducted in 2008 into what is now The University of Texas Kenneth I. Shine Academy of Health Science Education. In 2012, she also was named to The University of Texas System Academy of Distinguished Teachers.
