The purpose offaculty practiceat The University of Texas School of Nursing at Houston is to provide a venue for faculty to provide community and/or direct patient care services, establish a clinical site for student education and/or pursue research and leadership opportunities of interest. Many School of Nursing faculty members choose a faculty practice site to accomplish one or more of these goals.
University of Texas Health Services (UTHS)

This nurse practitioner managed practice started in 1991 and is considered by many to be one of the leading nurse practitioner managed practices in the country. UTHS-Medical Center provides primary and occupational health services with over 13,000 patient visits annually. Patients access the practice through insurance or one of the 52 contracts for service it has with multiple organizations or companies throughout Houston and the State of Texas.

Another means offaculty practiceat the School of Nursing is via a contract with community agencies to provide clinical and/or research services on a fee-for-service or contractual basis. The School of Nursing is a national leader and trendsetter in this concept of joining consultation with health care agencies. Some examples:

How does the program work?

What are the program costs?

What are the contract terms?
The contract is usually for a 12-month period and is renewable by mutual consent. Every agreement has an escape clause where either party, at any time, may give a 60-day notice of intent to cancel the contract. In case of emergencies, shorter notices are negotiated on an individual basis.
