HESI A2 Entrance Exam

About the HESI Exam

Official HESI A2 exam scores taken within the past two years are required for admission into the Pacesetter BSN Program. The following seven (7) sections of the exam are required:

  • Math,
  • Reading Comprehension,
  • Vocabulary and General Knowledge,
  • Grammar, and
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Biology *
  • Chemistry *

Aminimum score of 85% - higher is recommendedon each section (math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, Biology and Chemistry). Scores are reported to the UTHealth Register at the end of every month. If an application deadline falls after that timeframe, the School of Nursing has an agreement with the testing agency for those results to be sent on the next business day thus allowing students to meet the application materials requirement.

Registration Information

To ensure that the correct test results are associated with the correct applicant, we encourage all BSN Pacesetter applicants to submit their BSN CSON application first to receive their 7 digit application ID number. Then use that 7 digit application ID number as your identifier when you apply to the take theHESI Assessment Exam.

The HESI Exam is administered byElsevier.The exam is offered several times a year at Prometric testing centers throughout the United States. To create an account and register for the exam, follow theregistration instructions.It is important to follow these instructions carefully and as listed; failure to complete the HESI registration accurately may delay registration or communication of your scores to the School of Nursing.The UTHealth School of Nursing Department ID is 198326.

HESI Versions

When the Cizik School of Nursing Department ID is added to your exam record for the first time, you must register for Version 1. If the exam is repeated, register for Version 2. The exam cannot be taken more than two times under the UTHealth code. If you score below the recommended score or fail to complete a section, you must retake the entire exam. The School of Nursing will not accept partial exams. The most recent submitted score is presented to faculty for review.

Transferring HESI Scores

HESI exam scores taken for another institution can be sent to UTHealth if all of the required sections were taken. If any or part of the test required by UTHealth were not taken, the score report will not be accepted.

To transfer test results, the student must contact Elsevier to request the scores be sent to UTHealth Registrar. A nominal fee is charged by Elsevier for this service.

Q: What is the school code for the HESI Exam?

Q: Is there a limit to how many times I can take the HESI?

A: You can take the HESI up to twice under the UTHealth school code. The most recent score is used in the admissions evaluation. The first time you take the exam, Version 1 should be selected. If you take the exam a second time, Version 2 should be selected.

Q: Do HESI scores need to be submitted before the application deadline?

Q: How much weight does the HESI exam have on the admissions process?

A: Each component of your application is considered; the HESI is just one item out of many that are considered.

Q: If I take other sections of the exam besides those required, will those scores be considered?

A: No, only the required components will be reviewed. The other sections such as Critical Thinking, Learning Styles, and Physics are not required and will not be reviewed.

Q: If I took the HESI and forgot to register for a section, what do I do?

A: You must retake the entire test over again. Partial exams will not be considered.

Q: Do I need to send my HESI transcripts?

A: Transcripts should only be sent if the test was taken for another school. If they were taken with the UTHealth school code, the scores will be sent to us automatically.
